About The Scorecard
The Scorecard is a new publication that provides insightful and thought-provoking articles on a wide range of topics, from political messaging and elections analysis to how ideology and culture shape our political environment. Its scope will be both national and local, covering a variety of hot-button issues.
Editor and founder Kevin Shafer provides a unique perspective on politics. Not only is he well-versed in political campaigns, polling, and messaging, but he has also undergone a dramatic political transformation over the last few years in the wake of the Trump era, giving him a more complex and nuanced understanding of both sides of the aisle as well as evolving views on critical issues. While the editor may have his own political perspective, The Scorecard itself is non-partisan and welcomes contributions from writers across the political spectrum — as long as they respect our democratic institutions and the rule of law and oppose creeping authoritarianism.
The Scorecard’s coverage is also not limited to politics. Kevin will also delve into lighter fare such as sports rankings and niche topics like the WWE. He also aims to highlight some of the best commentary through his Scores of The Week newsletter. Whether you're a political junkie, a sports fan, or just interested in staying up-to-date on the latest news and analysis, The Scorecard has something for everyone.
Kevin also would like thank Justin Hayes for providing constructive edits that have helped improve the work you see here. To read Justin's writing, be sure to visit The JusTN Case.
Kevin welcomes comments on his posts so that you can provide feedback of your own and help shape the conversation. He believes strongly in the vigorous and civil discussion of ideas that is critical to the health of our democracy.

About The Editor: Kevin Shafer
I am passionate about politics, faith, communications, and data.
I grew up right outside of Baltimore and love my home state of Maryland. I have a small connection to Florida, having lived there for half a decade as well. I care deeply about what my faith means for me and my community. I am devoted to this country and its ideals and its future. I have had a crazy political evolution over the last seven years that has forced me to reevaluate a lot of my ideas while trying to stay true to my basic principles.
I’m a proud fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, and Florida Gators. It may be a niche interest but I am a fan of pro wrestling and will hopefully devote some posts related to that interest.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Florida Gulf Coast University (having done my first two years of undergrad studies at Messiah University). I then went on to receive my Master’s Degree in Political Science with a concentration in Political Campaigning from the University of Florida. I have lived in the DC area since 2014.
